Encouragement from the banking industry



I've been seeing these ads all around Hollywood and WeHo. (That banner is obscuring the U in "unsold," by the way.)

Thank you, Chase, for reminding me that I have absolutely no use for your ubiquitous ATMs.

That was one of the billboards I saw during my first visit to L.A. last month.

One of those greeted me as I first arrived in LA to pursue my writerly dreams. My initial reaction was "heh," and then it was, "...oh."

What a blunder! Offends zillions! "Almost as many ATM's as hard-working writers in Hollywood" would have been better.

I kind of love passing these billboards. Yes, they're a tad depressing, but they remind me that I'm really in the center of the film industry, and that if I'm going to make it anywhere, it's here -- and it's worth the struggle to be away from family and friends and the east coast to pursue this dream. They don't have ads like that everywhere -- so it's kind of nice to be a part of the right target audience.
