Steven - COMMUNITY had some hilarious dialogue, but my problem with it was that it's not really about anything. And we got so little in terms of character motivations...
To be sure, and that's a really good point. How on earth they'll create arcs for those characters is beyond me, but then I probably would have said the same thing about "The Office" when it first premiered.
The thing is, the vast majority of pilots this year weren't about anything, sad to say, while "Community" -- I mean, just look at that title -- at least thinks it might have a point to make about something someday. And it will sit beautifully at the top of what's shaping up to be a strange and marvelous Thursday night on NBC, while "Modern Family" is stuck amidst a bunch of B+-at-best ABC shows on Wednesday. Anyway, I have high hopes for both.
Have you seen anything promising among the dramas?
Hopefully this stays on longer than "In The Motherhood." I also wonder if this was one of the shows that Jimmy Kimmel was "venting" about at the ABC Upfronts. I hope not.

I can't argue with you, though I think "Community" is pretty fantastic too.
Hilarious.
